Street Musicians (in front of the Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts at Fez Medina, Morocco) by Jean Wu

About the Image(s)

I snapped this photo with my iPhone 16 Pro. I did a minor touch-up in Photoshop and removed distracting items.

It might not be the most striking picture, but the musicians’ expressions really capture the moment of joy playing their music.

Jean, where did you see these musicians?

You mentioned that your interest was the musicians' expressions. In this revision, I cropped to a 1 x 1 to see if we could get closer to the musicians and still keeps some information about the walls and the art object above them.

I'm not sure its an improvement, but just offering another idea.

Thanks for your suggestion and cropped version. The location is indicated in the title. They were singing right outside the museum, which is quite small and is located inside the Fez Medina. Below is the link you can get some idea of what it looks like. In the link, you will see a photo of the front door of the museum, and that is the location these musicians were at when I snapped the photo.

Yes, the expressions are very good. That with the beautiful clothing makes for a nice shot. A little more vignetting in the upper corners wouldn't hurt. I don't know if it would help. My own preference for the cropping is halfway between yours and Brenda's.   Posted: 08/07/2026 19:03:48

Thanks for your comment. 1x1 frame does bring the attention to these three musicians but makes the image a little bit too tight. Here is my new cropping.   Posted: 08/08/2026 18:16:43

I really like this and can't suggest any ideas for improving it. They look like they are about to ask you for a donation for letting them take their picture.   Posted: 08/08/2026 01:33:21

I am glad you like this image. You are absolutely correct; they do expect gratitudes from standby audiences. Most tourists will give them, but locals might not.   Posted: 08/08/2026 18:10:09

Jean - Looking at your image after everyone else has commented I have nothing else to add. I like the cropped version by Brenda and the vignetting suggestion by Robert. Love the colors and the expressions.
