About the Image(s)

I snapped the original around 8:30 p.m. local time with my iPhone 16 Pro, handheld. I love night photography, but it takes some effort to make good ones. At my current age, traditional gear is just too much for me to carry and go out at night hunting for good locations.

The good news is that camera function on iPhone is getting better and better, as well as the editing software. I used PS and Nik for post-editing. The bright yellow light reflection, which may seem to you a distraction, but it can also stir your curiosity about what’s happening on the boat outside the picture frame.

Beautifully captured evening harbor view - I really like the crop and the overall processing. I've also moved away from carrying large lenses and heavy camera bodies; they're just too inconvenient to travel with. I don't use an iPhone for photography since I prefer to print my work rather than post on social media. Instead, I shoot with a compact full-frame camera with a fixed lens. It's small, easy to handle, and still gives me excellent, print-worthy files.   Posted: 12/06/2025 01:56:12

I really like this and it reminds me of a shot I got just a few days ago in Denver. I didn't like the brown sky and I had the same problem so I edited your original and used a deep blue filter on the sky. I also lightened up the row of building on the far right side to give the image more depth. What do you think?   Posted: 12/06/2025 21:21:37

I really like it! I love that spot! Here's my version of it from 2016 when I was just learning photography. I used a long-exposure and tripod. I also find the brown sky unpleasing and do think Ed's sky filter is a move in the right direction. It gives you a warm/cool feel.   Posted: 12/07/2025 03:06:48

Very nice composition. Are the exteriors of the buildings really this drab, or was color lost on dim objects? It is interesting that Brenda took nearly the same photo some time ago. Hers, however has blown the rooms with lights on, so they all look white.   Posted: 12/09/2025 01:55:23

I really like the treatment you did for this image - the colors bring the buildings alive, great reflections in the water. The sky bothers me a bit but not as much as it does Ed and Brenda. I would have preferred a bit more depth of the orange color.   Posted: 12/14/2025 00:20:10
