This image was taken during the international surfing competition held in Taitung, Taiwan, this November. A typhoon was expected to trigger a sea warning the next day, so the waves were quite high and still sun shining. We calculated the tide times and captured this shot.
I used a Sony A1 with a 600mm prime lens, shooting at 1/6400, F/5.6, ISO 800. In Camera raw, I slightly increased the brightness and shadows, applied some noise reduction, and cropped out part of the sky. Please give me your guidance and feedback.

Great capture!! The only comment I have is that the splash on the lower right side presents some distractions. I would either remove them or crop the bottom more to get rid of the splash. Posted: 12/04/2025 22:33:02

Some thoughts....I agree with Jean that the lower right side splashes are bright and out of focus, so remove them. I probably wouldn't crop up to remove them, as it puts surfer-boy more in the center.
I might make the water a bit more dynamic, maybe a bit more green or blue.Maybe a tiny bit darker to bump up the contrast between the spray and the ocean? And perhaps consider lightening the surfer's face?

I like the real feel of the action. I'm fine with the color of the sea. Cropped as you have brings us right into the action. However, retaining the horizon places this in context, and so I also like your original. Posted: 12/09/2025 02:03:46
