About the Image(s)

f/7.1 1/640 second ISO 200 EV -1 8mm
Canon R100 Canon with EF 8-15mm Fisheye f/4 lens

This is looking at the sky in a forest of lodge pole pines through a fisheye lens. I really didn’t think this
was that amazing of a photograph but I have put it out on several photo groups on Facebook and I have
gotten way more positive comments that my photos typically get so I thought I was share it with you.

The original looks like it’s almost black and white but it really isn’t.

I converted this to BW using Photoshop. First, I did my usual processing and created a color image that I
liked. Then, after saving the color image, I cranked the saturation and I converted it to BW. I had more
control on how the colors were represented because of the elevated saturation.

I do love the pattern! It is really beautiful! The fisheye was brilliant. I can see why it garnered so much attention!

I think I'd like it more contrasty...true black and white instead of gray tones. I'll wait to see what ideas everyone throws out and then I might take a shot at another version.

I'm not sure if you took this photo in a horizontal or vertical frame. I think a vertical frame would be better for this type of photo, because it would show more of the tree trunk leading up to the sky, which would give viewer(s) a better idea of how tall the tree is. For this image, I would lighten up the sky area and use a vignette.   Posted: 07/02/2025 22:53:59

Sorry this image is confusing to you. I'm not sure how you could see this as a horizontal frame, it's not.   Posted: 07/04/2025 15:36:21

Oh, I forgot you're using a fisheye lens! I meant to show it as vertical instead of horizontal. My comments are just my personal preference, so don't take them too seriously. Just FYI, that's all!   Posted: 07/04/2025 15:43:09

I agree, using a fisheye gives this type of picture a fresh and interesting feeling. I like the three tones in this, the white sky, grey needles, and black trunks.   Posted: 07/03/2025 20:38:38

I agree with the others about the fresh feeling but would like to see some of the tree trunks darker. My eye kept going back to the lighter tree trunk rather than following the trunks up to the sky.   Posted: 07/06/2025 17:22:22

"Really well done on the processing! I love the angle-it gives a great sense of depth and really makes you feel the height of the trees. The black and white works perfectly here. Honestly, I don't think it needs anything more."   Posted: 07/16/2025 02:19:45
