About the Image(s)
On our trip to England and Italy in September, I photographed a lot of staircases with my cell phone. During my Milky Way workshop, Rick Sammon (well-known photo educator) recommended I do the whole Europe trip with my cell phone. So I did!
This is the Cecil Brewer Staircase in Heal's Furniture Store. It was built in 1810. Such a gorgeous staircase in a very unusual place!
I did a slight crop and used a NIK filter to darken the floor a bit, which I felt made it look it richer.
I'd like to enter it in Color. Any suggestions.

Your editing, darkening the floor, removing some of the lamps, and the cropping all helped the image. It is a very interesting subject and a nice photograph of it. I have no suggestions.   Posted: 11/04/2024 00:15:42

I'd love you to check out my 11/24 image trying to remove the blue steps and remove the light more carefully, and see if you see anything that doesn't feel right. Thanks!   Posted: 11/24/2024 15:57:51

I really like photographing spiral staircases. I've got a bunch of them. This is a really nice photo but I think the original is better than your edit because you broke it when you removed the lamp in the upper left. You still have the glow reflecting on the floor and the hand rail doesn't match. Here is the detail I am referring to.   Posted: 11/07/2024 15:12:15

Brenda, beautiful capture of a unique staircase! The darkened floor adds richness, highlighting the elegance of the space. Ed's feedback on the lamp reflection is insightful-small tweaks could make an already stunning image even stronger!   Posted: 11/11/2024 17:22:18

I appreciate your enthusiasm Jo-Ann! I agree Ed found a big flaw. I'll wait to see if any other members have any suggestions before I redo it. Thanks!   Posted: 11/12/2024 02:11:51

This is great. Ed's suggestion is important, and I have nothing else to add-it's a well-processed image.   Posted: 11/12/2024 02:01:58

Thanks, Sunil! I'll rework it as soon as everyone's advice comes in.   Posted: 11/12/2024 02:13:07

I like your revised image as it is. The blue light on the railings in the upper right corner doesn't bother me because I feel it is probably from some outside light source (such as a window) and not from the lamp that was removed. There is also a similar blue cast along the railing at the bottom of the image.   Posted: 11/12/2024 11:48:21

Thanks, Jim! I do think the blue ties in nicely with the blue floor at the center, but I did mess up the railing in the removal, and I'll see if I can be more tidy a second time around.
I don't think the blue shadow on the steps was from the light, but I'll take a deep look on fixing it.   Posted: 11/12/2024 21:11:52

It is a beautiful photo.Especially, I like the lines of the upwar curve of the stairs and the color of the yellow light.   Posted: 11/18/2024 02:29:13

Thanks so much, Pei-Fan! I'm going to see if I can do a better job on the items Ed pointed out. Hoping to post soon!   Posted: 11/20/2024 20:33:26

Ed caught a couple of mistakes on my staircase--the railing was messed up from removing a light and the stairs were really blue.
The blue was from light coming in the colored window, but I agree it was distracting.
I started over and reworked the image. I found some additional dust/junk that I removed. It was an easy fix to remove the light carefully and not leave "tracks" where I had taken it out.
The blue steps were more work-- I used Camera Raw to darken exposure and drop highlights and saturation to the steps. I also cloned some brown from other steps. It's not perfect, but I think its less distracting and more believable its just light on the steps.
I'd love your feedback on if you think I still need to fix this and where. Thanks!   Posted: 11/24/2024 15:56:53
