Busy Bee by Richard Goldenberg

October 2026 - Busy Bee

About the Image(s)

I took this photo on Sep. 27, 2026, in Sarasota, Florida. Photo was taken with my Sony Alpha 1, with a 100 mm lens. Settings were 1/3,200 s, f/11, and ISO of 10,000.

I was in Florida visiting my in-laws. Sarasota has always had lots of birds around during my prior visits, but the Fall migration seemed to have not reached as far south as Sarasota during my last visit. But there were lots of bugs around so it was a great chance to play with the macro lens.

Richard, very nice detail and moment, with all the pollen and a bit of it dropping!

The colors are very Florida - love that.

You handled well the challenge of keeping detail in a high sunlight, high dynamic range situation. Although the shady red areas of the blossoms may hint at it a bit, that may simply be the edge of the depth of field.

This is an enjoyable, vivid image of the pollinator at work.   Posted: 10/07/2026 14:26:15

Richard, great macro image of the bee at work. The wings denote movement in spite of the 1/3200 of a second speed. The bee is super sharp, unfortunately it blends with the bright, busy and very colorful background. Good image nevertheless.   Posted: 10/08/2026 12:39:48

Hi, Richard.
The level of details and peak of action that you captured in this pollinating bee are remarkable in spite of the harsh lighting. I know you've been wanting to experiment with your macro lens; great job!   Posted: 10/08/2026 18:37:41
