About the Image(s)
For this month’s image, I chose this photograph of a cabbage butterfly that I captured this weekend. Recently, the weather has returned to winter temperatures, with rainy days. Taking advantage of the rain and lower temperatures, I found this butterfly resting under a flower.

Aperture: f/8
ISO: 1000
Shot with a Canon R5 II body and a 100??“500 mm zoom lens at 324 mm.

Hi Maria - I really like the balance of the image in the frame. Nicely done. Sharp (as always), and the water droplets on the flower add a nice touch too. I don't s the anything to improve on.   Posted: 04/02/2026 08:10:22

Hi Maria - Another stunning macro photo! I agree with Karen that there is nothing to improve on in your original. But there's also always room to "play around" and I wondered how your image would look more zoomed in and with more light. The butterfly's eye is so interesting, I wondered how that would look closer up with more light. A rough edit (in Apple photos - no masking) along those lines is here for your consideration.   Posted: 04/06/2026 20:16:25
Richard, there is always room for a crop, but this is too tight creating tension in all four borders.   Posted: 04/08/2026 03:00:10
Hi Richard,
Thank you for your kind comment and your suggestions. I agree that a tighter crop could emphasize the eye of the butterfly, but I personally prefer to have a bit more space around the flower and the butterfly.   Posted: 04/12/2026 19:26:33

Maria - this is glorious! I love the sort of soft detail that radiates from the butterfly - everything is just so sharp, but very pleasingly so, encouraging a thorough examination of it all. Stunning!   Posted: 04/07/2026 19:44:15

Hi, Maria,
This is a breathtakingly lovely image and it is so alive! The colors, the level of details, the texture of the flower and the butterfly (I can literally feel them, and the muted and pleasant green background make this a winner.   Posted: 04/16/2026 23:33:38
