About the Image(s)
For this month’s image, I chose this photo of a thistle that I shot last spring while I was working on a series of macro shots of flies. The final result is a ten-image focus stack done in-camera.
Exif data:
Shutter speed: 1/640 sec
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 2000
Shot with a Canon R6 II body and an RF 100 mm macro lens.

Maria, great result. I guess that the fly collaborated for the portrait because it was early in the day and was still covered with the cold dew. The mosca itself is completely sharp, but I think that you had to extend the reach of the multiple exposures to cover more of the plant leaves, since being blurred creates some distraction. I did add some light to the fly to see more detail.   Posted: 12/08/2025 00:07:22
Hi Maria - very nice sharp, all the way through, image. I agree with Isaac's edit for a bit more light on the fly - but otherwise like your edits, especially increasing the fly's eye color.   Posted: 12/08/2025 03:01:18
Maria, this is lovely and the in-camera macro stacking tools we have now can be so useful. I don't find the foliage destructing, but certainly would list shadows etc of your subject (only) to better see the detail. I love the dark background and this helps to disguise the foliage.   Posted: 12/12/2025 18:10:11
Hi Maria - What a marvelous shot; details, colors and sharpness are right on. I like Isaac's edit of adding light to further enhance the details.   Posted: 12/14/2025 20:26:55
Hi Maria - Another fantastic macro image! You've inspired me to give macro a try. Can't wait for the return of bugs to the Boston area this spring. I like dark photos, but agree that Isaac's addition of light is an improvement.   Posted: 12/17/2025 12:21:13
