Wiley Coyote by Bruce Benson

November 2025 - Wiley Coyote

About the Image(s)

Taken at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. This coyote does not look very healthy, the coat looking like mange. It followed me along this road and gave me many opportunities to photograph it. Not much PP needed just a little sharpening.

Hi Bruce - Nice image! Well timed with a raised paw and with both eyes clear.

Yes, the coyote I have seen (at Yellowstone) had a thick coat - I imagine your one was in the Refuge for a good reason to help it as much as practicable.   Posted: 11/17/2025 17:50:34

Nice and tack sharp image Bruce! I like the motion you captured - I always go for a raised or bent leg. Poor coyote.   Posted: 11/19/2025 00:04:05

Bruce - I often see healthy looking coyotes carefully watching for cottontail rabbits living in the land basin area that's across my home. I remember seeing one that looked frail and unhealthy like your image on one of my walks. Your image is very sharp and you captured the sad facial expression of this coyote. I also like the blurred background and its color; gives the viewer a strong sense of place .   Posted: 11/19/2025 18:49:42

Hi Bruce - Great capture of a sad subject. It reminds me that nature shows us all phases of life - not just the healthy strong, but all the others too, and all of them merit documentation.   Posted: 11/23/2025 15:37:44
