May 2025 - Reddish Egret at Black Point

About the Image(s)

This month we are on a Reddish Egret State of mind. This image was created a the Black Point driving loop in Merritt Island - Titusville, Florida a few years back using a Nikon Z6ii with the Nikkor prime 800 mm f/5.6 + 1.25x TC for a total of 1000mm using the FTZ adapter and these settings: ISO 1400, f?10 and 1/1250 sec. The bird was very far from the road. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped

Isaac, I just returned from Florida and had three days of photographing Reddish Egrets at Fort Desoto. Amazing place where you can actually get in the water with them as they run around you. I love that you got the bird catching a fish. I have visited Black Point Drive several times and taken some favorite images, but none of Reddish. Well done. Bruce   Posted: 05/01/2025 16:26:24

Isaac - Great capture of a great moment! I love seeing the fish blurred through the disturbed water. 1000mm is a lot of reach. Were you using a tripod? If it were possible, I might have considered cropping a little further out on the left so we could see the full extent of the tail feathers.   Posted: 05/01/2025 21:35:30

Richard, yes it was on a tripod with a gimball, and that is the whole extension of the feathers, but recropped.   Posted: 05/03/2025 14:40:51

Isaac, I love how your image captured the intense expression on the egret's face, particularly the eye. Great image.   Posted: 05/12/2025 17:57:46
