About the Image(s)
For this month's image, I chose another one from my excursion to the mountains in Cantabria, in northern Spain. I captured this close-up of a mountain creek to highlight the details of the snow, ice, and flowing water.
In post-processing, I made only minimal edits??”just cleaning up some branches and adjusting the light and shadows.
Shutter speed: 1 sec
Aperture: f/9.0
ISO: 320
Shot with a Nikon Z7 II and a 20-400mm lens at 28mm

Maria - This is a beautiful image and I love the blur on the water. I don't have much experience with long exposures, but your choice of 1 sec seems about perfect. The only thing I might consider is cropping to remove some of the right side of the image because the upper-right section of "mostly white snow" seems to draw my eyes away from the part of the image I want to focus on.   Posted: 03/10/2025 17:43:18
Hi Richard,
Thank you for your comment and suggestion. I agree that such a large area of white snow could draw too much attention, so I might crop part of it to reduce the distraction.
When I take long exposures of waterfalls or moving water, I usually prefer a one-second exposure. It creates a silky effect while still retaining some detail and movement.   Posted: 03/12/2025 12:22:35

Maria, another nice image from you. Good color, sharpness where needed with blur in the water For my eye the bushes on the right are a bit distracting and I would like to see a little more of the scene if possible. Bruce   Posted: 03/12/2025 10:39:23
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for your comment and suggestion. It seems that the upper right side of the image is drawing attention away from the water flow and ice. I might reconsider the crop to better focus on that area.   Posted: 03/12/2025 12:26:05

Hello Maria. It is fun trying to capture a small scene like this. You have done well in blurring the water.
As you say, this is a close up of "snow, ice and flowing water", but as presented I don't really know where to look. I know where I want to look and that is only the central area, so that the frozen water attached to the heather forms a far greater part of the image. And one wants some flowing water (nice and blurry), plus some snow.
So I would experiment with cropping from all 4 sides, to push the viewer to understanding that it's the frozen water and flowing stream that is the core message, with some snow visible to support that.   Posted: 03/21/2025 17:27:35

Maria, nice winter landscape with a blurred stream of water giving that silky effect. I agree that the central point of the image is the silky are. I cropped the image in all four sides and added a little more light to the blurred stream to make it the central point. Sorry that I eliminated your frame.   Posted: 03/27/2025 18:25:06
