About the Image(s)
Crabs can be colourful, so I thought I would show one I took about 11 moths ago when at Aruba on the southern edge of the Caribbean - close to Columbia. Walking from the ship’s berth along the coast was successful in finding a good amount of wildlife to photograph.
Settings - 1/2,000 f6.2 ISO 4,000 after 1/3 Exp Comp and at Full Frame 540mm - using my Olympus gear.
It was developed in Lightroom, first for the crab, then for the background. I struggled in getting the left (to us) legs fully sharp, despite pushing it through Topaz Photo Ai at the end.

Wow what a colorful animal, The slightly soft legs do not bother me since the eyes and body are sharp. The eyes are looking toward you making a connection. Even though the background is similar to the body of the crab, the lighting on the crab makes it pop. Bruce   Posted: 01/05/2025 05:42:09

Adrian - Fantastic image! For me, the slight blur in the legs doesn't detract from the image at all. My eye goes straight to the crab's eyes and body, which are so striking that, even if I try to look away, my eyes are pulled right back to the eyes/body. Great post-processing job - the finished image is way more interesting and eye-popping than the original.   Posted: 01/15/2025 20:13:59

Richard - many thanks for your comments. Here is another colourful crab, taken at the weekend when we had one day in Gran Canaria (off African coast) on our way sailing to Caribbean/Amazon. I was lucky to be there shortly after the crab had come out of the sea and before it went into the shade for a siesta!   Posted: 01/16/2025 09:12:37

Adrian, what a beautiful and colorful image of a crab. I have spent some time along different coasts, not Aruba though, but have never seen anything like this colorful and attractive crab. Your PP was very effective in bringing the different colors out.   Posted: 01/16/2025 20:33:34

Hi Adrian,
You've captured a beautiful and colorful crab in great detail. I love how you've enhanced the colors of the crab in the edit-it really makes it stand out. There's a strong visual connection between the crab and the viewer, drawing attention to its eyes and body. The slight blur in the legs isn't very noticeable.

Adrian, Aruba is a great island, in fact; they call it the friendly island. When I lived in Caracas (Venezuela) we went there frequently. Only 35 minutes fly and cheap back then. This crab, the same as the Caribbean Lobster have different colors compared to other geographies. The soft right legs is not critical, but some purist judges would score the image low. Obviously the African crabs are more colorful.   Posted: 01/24/2025 20:11:31

Thanks Isaac - interesting.
I won't put it into Nature as there is no storey - but might test it in PIDC once or twice to see.   Posted: 01/24/2025 21:33:46
