About the Image(s)

This was taken this Summer when on a 27 day cruise from UK to Newfoundland, Canada then up the Labrador Sea to the Greenland Capital, Nuuk. When between Canada and Greenland we came across many large icebergs, most of which we stopped sailing and went round them when possible. They are so often an extraordinary shape as bits fall off and the whole thing rotates, so is then smoothed by the water, before rotating again, to be ‘attacked’ again by wind and the elements into new shapes.

Its difficult to understand the size of the main picture - which I chose because of the lighting and colour range - so I’ve added an extra image which was taken some 1/2 hour earlier with my wildlife lens at some 700mm, to show the size of the birds that were resting on it and flying in front.

The main picture was an iPhone image, shot in Raw and imported into Lightroom as a Tiff and upscaled (x2) in Topaz Photo Ai.

I have today printed this to add interest in our Kitchen/Dinner.

I hope you all have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Adrian, first of all congratulations for your recent ROPA upstaged to EPSA. Yes, I agree with you that it is not always possible to show the size of these floating peaces of ice, but you added an extra image showing a scale compared to the size of the birds flying from and to the iceberg. The main image is very sharp and it has the added reflection on the water.
Happy Hollidays as well.   Posted: 12/04/2024 16:17:42

Here is an example of one that we saw in Antarctica a few years ago, compared to the size of a passenger ship   Posted: 12/16/2024 22:33:36

Hi Adrian,
It must be an incredible experience to be so close to one of these icebergs. As you mentioned, it's hard to truly grasp their size, so thank you for including the additional image to give us a sense of scale for these massive blocks of ice.

Your image is stunning, with beautifully contrasting colors. The iceberg is perfectly framed by the dark sky, allowing us to appreciate all the intricate patterns and textures in the ice.

This is a fantastic image that truly deserves to be printed and displayed in a special spot in your home so you can keep this amazing experience alive.

Congratulations on your EPSA, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

It's funny how by just looking at these images of the iceberg, I feel a cold shiver. However, at the same time, it is such an incredibly uplifting image of different colors and shapes and angles and textures. I don't happen to have sea legs so I don't cruise well at all, but to me being that close to this iceberg must have been an unforgettable experience.   Posted: 12/17/2024 19:01:55
