About the Image(s)

My monochrome image titled After the Snowfall is attached. This is a recent attempt on my quest to calm the chaos in photos taken of an unkempt woodlot near my home. This past February we had a light snowfall with no wind that left the branches of the trees and bushes covered in snow. The snow greatly simplified the scene. In order to evaluate how much the scene changed, I took subsequent photos 4 (color image with some snow) and 8 days (color with melted snow) after the original photo which are attached. The monochrome image was processed in Lightroom. The white and black points were adjusted to increase the tonal range and some clarity was applied. The camera was hand held with exposure settings of 1/200 sec, f/5.6, and ISO 100.

This is a very cool study. Congrats on sharing your insights with us. The snowy monochrome image is much simpler and pleasing. The convoluted nest of branches in the color versions is far less pleasing to view. Thanks for the idea. I like the story of the monochrome image and the feel of the fridge environment.   Posted: 07/09/2024 19:21:13

You took on a real challenge to get a good image of this tangle of branches. While it is not likely to win awards, I think you found a way to be up to the challenge. I think the branches wrapping the white area in the middle makes a definite center of interest in an otherwise confusing scene. I would consider a crop from both right and left to concentrate us on that area of the image even more.   Posted: 07/17/2024 22:16:26

There is a wide tonal range so obviously you have exposed this quite well and I like the mono better than the colour versions. The hole at the bottom centre is rather inviting and makes a strong lead into the woodland in a fairy tailish kinda way. Excuse the pun but the snow is the icing on the cake.   Posted: 07/19/2024 08:34:54

I find the white hole very intriguing and can almost wait for a fox or some animal to make tracks though the opening. It is nicely framed by the branches. The circular branch to the left of the opening is puzzling and a bit distracting?   Posted: 07/20/2024 17:35:18

The hole gives me a "secret garden" feel. What might be down there???

I like the texture in the snow, the brightness has been well controlled.   Posted: 07/25/2024 19:53:05
