Chris Prior
About the Image(s)
Canon 20D with Canon 400 f5.6 1/160sec f11 (minus 1 exposure compensation) ISO 400 on tripod
Opened as RAW image where I cropped out a fair amount to concentrate on the best section. Original attached so you can see extent of cropping. Decreased highlights and whites down slightly and increased shadows slightly before importing to PS. Converted to mono by creating a new fill adjustment layer and selecting SOLID COLOR (black) and COLOR blending mode on 100% opacity.

Great drama, Chris! The curved diagonals and the breaking waves surrounding the surfer make it very exciting for me.
Your mono conversion is good, as usual. I tried to follow your method in Affinity, but couldn't find the facility to make a "fill adjustment layer". Hence I come back to my usual method of a B&W adjustment layer.   Posted: 10/07/2026 06:26:06
