About the Image(s)
The image is entitled "Church at Femme de Osage" and was taken with my SONY -A700 at 0.4 sec, f25, ISO 200. It was a very cold day and I was amazed the shutter did not freeze.

The very strong tonal contrast, almost chiaroscuro, gets my attention. The fence authoratatively directs my gaze to the church, actually the window shutters. Did you happen to remove a pole from the image? The angled lines look like guy wires to a utility pole.   Posted: 08/11/2026 23:40:29
Yes, very contrasty, and the details in the snow have been lost. If you started in RAW, I would expect that decreasing the highlights would give a bit of texture to the snow. Personally, I don't think it's symmetrical enough to have the subject right in the centre, so I'd offset the building a little. But I can imagine the temperature, a challenge for photographers as well as shutters!   Posted: 08/16/2026 14:49:42
Certainly looks cold. The fence while making a strong leading line frames the church nicely and it stands out well against the contrasting dark background. I reckon if you cropped out all the light sky (and I know that also takes out the steeple) you end up with a stronger image. Some more detail in the snowy path too would'nt go astray.   Posted: 08/19/2026 07:52:25
Wow after 33C weather here this snow does look inviting!
Building on Stuarts comment, and do a Charlie Waite and make the leading line where you want.
Apologies but here's the look I am trying to describe.
I did try and get some more detail in the snow on the road it is there somewhere but I thought I'd done enough   Posted: 08/24/2026 12:20:34

Good leading lines guiding your eyes right to the church, the shape of the windows on the church is very pretty, monochrome version makes them pop out from the white building   Posted: 08/24/2026 21:21:17
