Eyelets by Chris Prior

July 2025 - Eyelets

About the Image(s)

Canon 6D with Canon 24-70mm f4 lens @37mm 1/40sec f22 ISO 400
Shot at Newcastle ocean baths on an overcast & rainy day. Opened in camera RAW where I opened up shadows before importing to Photoshop where I burned down the rocks and white water then increased contrast slightly via curves adjustment level. Converted to mono by creating a new fill adjustment layer and selecting SOLID COLOR (black) and COLOR blending mode on 100% opacity.

Simplicity, pattern - and wonky bits! I think the bent eyelets add a lot of interest to this, so they keep pulling my eyes to them.

I'm wondering if it would have been possible to find a shooting place so that all of the eyes were not behind other eyelets? I think the very bent ones are too bent to have all the eyelets completely separate, I think there have to be a couple crossing over others, but I would prefer at least separating the eyes from overlaps.   Posted: 07/08/2025 21:34:48

A most interesting image. Well seen with a nice perspective.   Posted: 07/16/2025 22:18:04

This is so interesting. The bent eyelets and their pattern make the scene special. The pattern of bent eyelets is not regular, which also adds interest, in my opinion. Nicely seen image!   Posted: 07/19/2025 21:42:31
