Canon 6D with Canon 24-70mm f4 lens @57mm 1/500sec f16 ISO 400
Full frame uncropped Image of sand dunes at Catherine Hill Bay beach shot early morning in summer. The texture of the sand and shadow of the grass was the big appeal to me so I found a suitable position and layed down with elbows dug in the sand for some stability as I did not have a tripod. Opened in camera RAW where I increased contrast, toned down highlights and whites and increased shadow detail. Imported to Photoshop where I did some localized dodging and burning on a separate layer before converting to mono by creating a new fill adjustment layer and selecting SOLID COLOR (black) and COLOR blending mode on 100% opacity. I have included the 'as shot' colour version for comparison.

I quite like the original, but the mono version is much more interesting I think. I like the patterns and textures. I'd prefer to see the background darkened down, it doesn't add to the picture in my opinion.   Posted: 04/17/2025 22:21:02

Sharp and good tones, but agree with Stuart. Darken and / or softer focus the background. Lower to ground angle would have been better shot.   Posted: 04/19/2025 05:46:06

Monochrome version is the winner with great detail and shadows. The angle of the grasses also adds another dimension.   Posted: 04/19/2025 13:31:22
