April 2025 - Morning Landscape

About the Image(s)

My monochrome image for April is titled Morning Landscape. It was taken hand-held overlooking a broad field. The white spring house and walking path were the main features that captured my attention. I intentionally kept a wide view rather than cropping around the spring house because I likes the foreground grasses and to include the sweeping arches of sunlight on the ground. The exposure settings were 1/50th sec, f/5.6, and ISO 100. Some cropping of the shy was done, leaving a small amount to show the horizon. In Lightroom the image was converted to Black and White before adding some local contrast enhancement was done to the shadowed and sunlit areas before some light sharpening.

The grasses and raking light certainly have lots of appeal and you have managed to reveal quite a lot of detail in both the shadows & highlights all the way through. It is a really nice composition also with the house/ tree providing a strong focal point off the leading line of the path. Has a really peaceful mood. Well done.   Posted: 04/15/2025 09:47:18

Pastoral image. Good use of foreground but too low and some of the building. Sky too light in tone for my taste and lacks interest.   Posted: 04/19/2025 05:56:40

A nice pastural scene. The foreground could be an image by itself due to the direction of the light which tends to come at a diagonal, separating the foreground from the background. Good detail in the grasses and flowers.   Posted: 04/19/2025 13:46:09

I think this is a pleasant scene. I agree with Don's comment, and the question I'd then ask is, does the foreground grass add to the picture? Personally I think it doesn't, and cropping it to a letterbox makes clearer the nice leading lines (3) going to the house. I'd agree, a bit of importing of a more interesting sky would help, or just crop it off? Actually I prefer not to crop the top, as the tree jutting into the sky is attractive I think. Maybe a bit more (interesting) sky would be best of all?
