About the Image(s)

I've always been fascinated with urbex and rurex, exploring and photographing abandoned buildings, wondering about the age of the structure and its occupants. There is no shortage of this type of subject matter in Texas.

Standard camera settings. Monochrome conversion and decreased depth of field enhanced by varying degrees of Gaussian Blur filter in PS. Nothing special.

Nice separation of tone and focus between the subject and background. What are your standard camera settings?   Posted: 03/14/2025 13:03:17

Thank you Jerry.
Not sure which settings you want: exposure or camera program?   Posted: 03/15/2025 20:48:36

The thing that grabs me is the quality and luminosity of the image courtesy of some beautiful lighting which highlights the building nicely. It brings out texture and wide range of tones. The soft areas of fore & background work extremely well in the framing of the subject so that it commands all the attention and I like what you have done with the sky so that it does not detract in any way. Your title baffles me; I understand the subject is located in Washington County but I imagine Washington County is a vast region and more than just an abandoned building.   Posted: 03/15/2025 20:02:52

I had to use the county name because the homestead was not located near any town. I can, however, tell you what county road I was on and my destination was Plantersville near Navasota, TX.   Posted: 03/15/2025 20:51:45

Patrick,
Great picture. I love old buildings. You made this one special with the dark sky making foreground really stand out.   Posted: 03/19/2025 16:10:58

You picked a good subject, composed it well, focused attention where you wanted it and your monchrome conversion resulted in good tonal ranges throughout with good contrast between all pirture elements. You didn't say nmuch about your processing but it worked.   Posted: 03/31/2025 00:00:09
