About the Image(s)
I took a trip along the James River by Boat recently and captured a number of birds in flight and in the trees as well as along the river bank. Here is a close up using my Nikon D500 with 200-500mm, ISO 3200, 1/1600s, f5.6, Lightroom and Nik Silver Efex for final monochrome conversion. I used LR AI Denoise, but less then happy with the texture/grain results, but tonally, I am pleased with the focus, composition and white to black tones.

This is such a captivating portrait of the eagle! I love how the monochrome treatment brings out the textures in the feathers and enhances the eagle's powerful expression. The tonal range from white to black is beautifully handled, giving the image depth and a moody atmosphere. The soft background does a great job of isolating the subject, making it stand out with a sense of majesty. I know you mentioned some concerns with the texture after denoising, but honestly, it doesn't take away from the impact of the shot.

Oh, isn't he (she?) gorgeous? A superb result in my view, I'd hang it on my wall any day. I agree with Kiesha's comments. There is a little noise, but it doesn't spoil it at all for me.

I note the high ISO and so assume the light was not ideal. Given that, you have done a good job to expose correctly on the highlights as it is the neck feathers & head area which really contrast with the rest of the image so that it becomes a strong focal point with great impact. It is where the viewer's eye lands straight away and stays there and so noise and or any other imperfections are insignificant.   Posted: 11/17/2024 09:17:15

very majestic. The detail in the white head feathers and contrast with the background are excellent. The contrast between the body of the eagle and the background is low. I'm not sure what could be done about that.   Posted: 11/19/2024 13:42:34
