About the Image(s)

I was in Buena Park, CA on the day that Hurricane Hilary was making its way up the coast. I stayed at Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel, not because I was going to the park, but because it was walking distance to the conference I was attending. The theme park preemptively closed in anticipation of the storm. When I was out walking, I took a photo of the Knott’s Marketplace walkway, which would normally be crowded with families. I thought the lines would make for a good abstract, so I reflected the image, used Difference blend mode, rotated, and then converted to BW in Silver Efex Pro.

The heavy rain never arrived, but there was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake. That’s what inspired me to rotate the image a bit. All in all, a very exciting visit.

Your submittal was inspired by the earthquake which is pretty cool. A mirroring of the outside wall and then rotating it to create your abstract interpretation of a post earthquake scene is clever indeed

Now if there was a way to infuse cracked and broken glass...

Bunny, the glass, mirror effect, texture on floor and in ceiling are all fantastic in making a beautiful Abstract. I keep looking at your original and trying to envision and end result. You accomplished a beautiful and unique image. Well done   Posted: 09/07/2023 16:13:31

Hello Bunny,

Wow! This is an amazingly creative image. Usually, less is more, but you have gone over the top with more, and it works. I find myself trying to make sense of the reflections. On the lower left side, I feel like I am in a 1960s restaurant because of the shiny silver pieces. The two-point perspective draws me into the center of the image, but the lines and geometry help pull me back into reality. Excellent job, Bunny; thanks for sharing!

Bunny, I feel like I'm looking through a monochrome kaleidoscope. Fascinating. Your imagination and creative abilities are definitely on display with this image. I love the sense of being pulled into the vortex. It's mesmerizing! I tried darkening the windows on the two sides, but I don't like the result as much as I like yours. Nonetheless, here's what it looks like.

Wow, Your mixing and matching really creates tension and throws the viewer into an odd space. Love it but not sure I'd have even come close to coming up with the idea.   Posted: 09/29/2023 21:33:10
