About the Image(s)

I captured this earlier this year, on 11th Feb 2026, in the late afternoon from a helicopter. According to my flight plan, I was flying west of the country, ended up over the Jamuna River, and found a boat full of people travelling. This caught my attention.

I took this shot with my Samsung S23 mobile camera without using a flash. A simple crop, light adjustment, and monochrome conversion were done in the Windows Photo Editor??”here it is for your feedback.

I hope you enjoy the image and any feedback is welcome.

Syed, Well, you're very brave to go in a helicopter !
I think it's hard to take a good shot with a cell phone from a moving overhead vehicle. I think it would have been nice to see the whole boat, as it's cut off on the right. The people in the boat are not really in focus, and because you're so far away, their clothing/bodies in black and white version make it difficult to see them clearly. Maybe if you can reduce some digital noise or sharpen it, might look better. I think the color picture looks better because I can see the people better. But good for you, you gave it a good try!   Posted: 10/06/2026 16:13:19

Kamal - this is a great documentary photograph. It shows a different transportation method than we're used to ( where are the lifejackets ? ) . I can suggest an alternate crop leaving the shadow of the helicopter in - again I think this would add to the documentary value.

I am not familiar Windows Photo Editor but when using my smart phone for photography I use the built in photo processing capabilities or a free app called Snapseed.

Cheers

Kamal, I'm fascinated by your helicopter photographs. Are you alone when you're piloting?

This image really shows a mode of transportation that most of us probably aren't familiar with. The number of people in the boat, the lack of lifejackets, and the man steering are not commonly seen in my country. That makes it very interesting!

I took the liberty of modifying your image, including using AI to add the rest of the boat. That, of course, would make it ineligible for most competitions, but we aren't competing. (Smile) Please let me know your thoughts.
