About the Image(s)

I took this picture of a cat staring out behind the store window on the same night as the Father and Son image I posted in Sept. I liked the way the light was hitting it. This is small town USA, Hermann Mo, population 2200. Known for its wine it is a great destination for food and drink.

Workflow: I rendered the BW using NIK Silver Efex. I removed some unwanted items, added a slight vignette and increased the exposure of the subject just a touch.

Camera: OM-1 Mk II Olympus 25mm f1.2 lens at 25mm. 1/25 sec f3.2, ISO 6400, 0 EV

Emil, this image tells a story. The cat is clearly intrigued by you and has a look that only cats have. It's a combination of curiosity and awareness. I like how you've included the sign in the image, though I wish it didn't cover part of the cat's ear. I noticed a second cat lying on a ledge behind the "star."

Really an intriguing photograph.

Pete

A little quirky image but it intrigued me when I saw the kitty looking out.

Thanks for your comments

Emil, I really enjoy this picture ! You really got the kitty staring right at you, which isn't easy always easy to do. I love how the cat is placed in just the right place among the signage of the cafe, it's perfect, tells me where you were, that is was probably night time and the cafe was closed. I love how you lightened the shadows around the cat's face, cleaned the image up a bit, and your conversion leaves lots of lines and textures in the letters. Can you remove the "strap" or whatever is behind the head of the main cat? Maybe not... just a thought. I really like this image and your BW conversion is so nice.   Posted: 10/06/2026 16:18:51

Donna,

Thank you for your kind words.

Now that it is October I should have fresh Photoshop Generative Fill credits so I can remove both straps that hold up the sleeping kitties bed.

regards

Emil

Emil - great image that is well captured and processed. I especially like the way the cat seems to be looking at me!

Along with your previous image of the father and son you seem to be able to put your subjects at ease which is important for portrait photography.

Cheers
