Encounter by Michael Laezza

October 2026 - Encounter

About the Image(s)

I would like to do things a bit differently this month. Apart from any comments on the technical aspects can you provide your interpretation to the scene? What does it represent to you? What is it about? What is your reaction? I would appreciate it.

Michael,

Great vantage point to create this scene. Which has a lot to say to the viewer

The shadows of the man suggest that he is going to photograph something, maybe the lady facing him - she seems to be stationary maybe posing for a photo or two.

No techical issues.

Regards

Emil - indeed there was a photoshoot going on and the lady was a model.

Cheers

Hello Michael,
My initial reaction to the image is that I see a buxom woman facing in one direction and a man who seems to not be noticing her, walking toward her. I can't tell what he is doing; is he pulling a knife out of his pocket? Is he struggling to walk? Are they on a bridge or walkway that has a big drop-off behind? Is he going to do something to her? Lots of unanswered questions, maybe she is going to pose for a picture to be taken or maybe he is spooking her and she's thinking of running off. I wish I could see the man more clearly. Fascinating !   Posted: 10/06/2026 16:34:12

Donna - thank you for your extensive comments. I came across a photoshoot that was taking place and took several photos - indeed I titled them "Photoshoot". This image however seemed to evoke different messages along the line that you brought up - an encounter between strangers. But the cameras held by the male figure gave it away .

I have cloned out the cameras in the attached revised image but knowing that this approach strays away from the realism I want to achieve in street photography.

Cheers

The man appears to be carrying two cameras, suggesting he's a professional or advanced photographer. He seems to be stooping, perhaps to get the camera angle he wants. The woman is standing facing the photographer. Based on her shadow, the dress she's wearing is a "see-through" mesh. This makes me think she is a model, posing for the photographer.

I love the top-down angle of your photograph, and the use of shadows to tell a fascinating story is great. Well done!

Mike, I agree! Without the cameras, it becomes a different (and ominous) photograph!
