About the Image(s)

Image taken in Lisbon of a typical street scene. I’ve been instructed by Arthur Meyerson to get more people in my images and focus on “Gesture”. Well, I managed to get a human in this shot and it did make it more interesting for sure, but still working on the Gesture part. All editing and conversions were done in Lightroom.

Mark,

Mr Meyerson offered you solid advice. The lad with his phone adds interest. There should be a few folks in Lisbon to include in your street shots.

Looking forward to see next months image

Very nice capturing of a south european street atmosphere. I agree with Mr MEyersons advice and try to beef up my street photogrpahy similarly. I share your experience, that people doing photogenic gestures at the right time at the right place are a rare find ;-)

Mark - thank you for passing on the valuable advice. I feel though that your image provides an interesting contrast - the walker on his phone seems to be in a hurry - the person who put out the laundry is not.

Cheers

Mark,

I agree with adding people to a street scene. I have created street scenes without people and just doesn't represent the scene correctly as the street seems dead. In your image, I like the contrast of the grittiness of the building and the individual holding the phone who seems neatly dressed. I would have added a light vignette to the image to help the viewer focus on the subject.   Posted: 04/05/2026 12:06:38

As others have said, it's a real bonus to have people in street photographs. They give the image a feeling of action and life. I hadn't thought about the added benefit of having the people making gestures. An excellent idea.

I played with your image to see if I could make the laundry more prominent. The drying towels, sheets, etc., make a very nice balance to the man. Your thoughts?

Hi Mark,
Greetings my friend.
Thank you for your candid image of passing by. The frame is simple and a human activities in the scene did, adding up to the scene. I am sure there could be more of this activities and they could be placed in the frame. Good job and looking forward to your next editions in our group.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.
