About the Image(s)

Technical details : I converted the base images to B&W using LR and Nik software and then composited the final in PS.

Summary: I wanted to do something different this month. At times I like to combine several photos into a composite to achieve some creative aspect or a multiple exposure effect. In this case, I created a mirror image of the pillars ( railway underpass ) and combined that with the image of the two people sitting on a pier. I tried to achieve symmetry in the pillars and the road, but kept the clouds as the original to intentionally break the symmetry.

Curiously, with the advent of generative AI I do not do as much compositing as before because I feel that viewers will think I have generated the composite image using generative AI and hence is not my image.

Michael,

I applaud your work here, the pillars are done perfectly, the clouds look good, perfectly masked. I offer that the two subjects could be a bit larger. You are creating a large scale road surface and thus the subjects were left unchanged.

Just my reaction to a well conceived composite

Thank you Emil - I actually tried to maintain proportions between the people and the height of the underpass. I assumed that the height requirements for the underpass is about 16 feet. The heights of the people sitting down is about 3 feet.

Certainly though playing with the size of the people would give a different aspect.

Cheers

Wow and double wow: that is a gorgeous picture. perfectly balanced and I honestly only saw at second glance that it is composited. Personally I obviously :-) very much like the panoramic format. Different from Emil I like the size of the people as they provide a contrast to the heavy pillars. Maybe try to light up the right person a bit?
Brilliant idea and brilliantly implemented. Very skilful.

Adrian - thank you for your comments and suggestion. I definitively feel that a panoramic format does fit the composition.

Cheers

Very clever use of mirror image. I like the result, especially that some of the image is not mirrored.   Posted: 04/04/2026 19:00:10

OUTSTANDING! Mike, I love the effect you've achieved with this image. The fact that the couple is seated almost on the frame and is looking into the photograph adds to the impressive perspective and depth. This has a feeling that's somewhat similar to your "The Last Sentinel" photograph from December. Excellent work.

Mike, I agree with the others, WOW. First glance and i was just overwhelmed. It's dramatic, well done and forget AI, you dont need it. I'd love to see more. Mark   Posted: 04/13/2026 20:02:58

Michael,

I do like what you have created in your image. The converging lines really draw your attention towards the center of the image. I do like how the people give you scale to you railroad bridge. The only change I would make is moving the two people further up in the image. To me they look like they are sitting on the edge of the image. I would not change the size.   Posted: 04/14/2026 12:55:35

Chris - thank you for your observations. I will try to move up the people a bit so see the effect that creates.

Hi Michael,
Greetings my friend.
A lovely composition of two images into one. The planning, creativity, the post processing; simply made this a perfect image to indulge with. Nothing more to add. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.
