About the Image(s)
The photo was taken during several visits to the Église Saint-Eustache in Les Halles, Paris. I’m always amazed at how churches/cathedrals of the past so overwhelmed the individuals by their size. Here even the Pulpit dwarfs the visitor. The image was taken with my iPhone 15pro in raw format, converted and processed in Lightroom.

Mark,
Thanks for info. You see many great things in your travels
I guess the church philosophy then was to place the priests in a superior position far above the common folk in the pews by preaching from such an elaborate pulpit

Mark - I share your thoughts that one feels overwhelmed by the sheer scale and the architecture and engineering of these cathedrals.
I believe the main character here is the man - while being small in scale he still looms large since it was men that built it. I cropped the image to emphasize the man and also point out that he and even the large pulpit are small in relation to the overall edifice.

Hi Mark - I love the concept and I tried similar more than once. As the comments of the colleagues show it is a very tricky task to portray the beauty of the cathedral as well as their size in one and the same picture. Either the person serving as comparison is too prominent and hence distracting or too little and hence not visible. In my view you did a very good job in capturing both aspects.   Posted: 12/09/2025 18:46:53
Hi Mark,
Greetings my friend.
I wish you have a wonderful holidays ahead.
The image that you have shared is simply a stunning one. Handling of the image, and making the final version is surely tricky as the lines of the column gives a tilted perception from the base. But the man walking towards the column justified the caption from the giant structure. This is well seen and presented. I like the edited version from pete & Machael. Thanks again.
Cheers.
Kamal.

Mark, Very nice image and I like how you processed the image. I visited a number of cathedrals in Germany a couple of years ago and had the same experience. I tried a different approach to the image to see if I could make the pulpit standout more. I used a combination of radial masks to darken around the pulpit to highlight also add some direction light.   Posted: 12/18/2025 15:29:57
