About the Image(s)
At the beginning of the year I joined the first time in my life a photography seminary. I was firstly a bit lost as I am not used to “photograph on demand” but when I see something that strikes my inspiration. For boosting my motivation I tried to use a new format. As I liked a lot the format of the latest works of Josef Koudelka with the XPAN, I decided to switch to 24x65. It was a life changing experience to me after 25 years of doing solely square photographs and I spent the following weeks revisiting my archives and recropping old pictures which seemed to work well in that format.
The picture above titled “from industry to anarchy” was made in an area formerly used by the chemical industry. Until the authorities have decided how to reuse it, it is left to the people. I liked the scenery with the slightly broken but still somewhat mundane chair in front of the barbecue grill. Further I liked the contrast between the disorganized emptiness in foreground compared to the busy working in the well organized offices in the back.
Picture was taken with the Hasselblad X2D, XCD 65, ISO 800, f 2.8 and 1/125 sec. In LR is increased the contrast, darkened left, right and top (incl dehaze) borders with a linear gradient and lightened up the centre with a radial gradient.
