Mark, an interesting scene. However, there is so much going on that I can't decide where to look. With that in mind, I decided to see if I could make the young man facing the camera the focal point. After increasing the image size (it's best to have a vertical size of about 750 pixels), I used Camera Raw to modify the lighting. Did I lose the feeling that you wanted the image to convey?

I agree that it's very busy and like how you've really brought out the lighting on the one diner. For me, I'd take what you've done and add just a bit more light on the other individuals to add some but not all of the environment back. Thanks for the feedback.   Posted: 03/20/2025 17:45:12

Mark - definitely an image with tremendous potential. The setting and the interaction of the people in the restaurant provides an amazing setting for a powerful street scene. While it is difficult to view the scene properly because of the reduced pixel size I agree with Pete's suggestions to focus on the diners ( or perhaps the cook in a different version )

I think this combined with Peters edits would be great. Will have to play a bit.   Posted: 03/20/2025 17:45:58
Mark,
As the other has mentioned, this is a great street scene, and I also think that it is busy. I am not sure when I look at the image what the focus should be.
I also tried to create my approach to the image to give you another approach to create more focus. It was kind of tough with the low pixel count.
We are planning a trip to Japan next year. My son did a study aboard in Tokyo and he is excited to show us around. Hoping to come back with some great images like yours.

Can't wait to see your photos of Tokyo. I took these as part of a night photo class I took while in Tokyo. The instructor was an Australian chap. Had fun. Did shots in the Scramble crossing, this narrow alley near by and did slow shutter, ghosting. All of which were new to me.   Posted: 03/20/2025 17:48:31
Hi Mark - I can only echo the others, that is a great shot and the viewer get a great impression of the atmosphere, which you captured very well. I agree that the picture might benefit of a recropping. Find my below my attempt, in which I removed the photographer, which seemed to me personally the less essential element.   Posted: 03/26/2025 09:06:21
