About the Image(s)
I made this photograph about five years ago at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. My goal was to capture the challenges faced by elephants. The eye of the elephant seemed appropriate since it was difficult to imagine how the elephant could see with all the hairs blocking its view.
My processing, including conversion to B&W was done in Camera Raw. I also used Camera Raw’s masking capabilities to modify the lighting, hoping to bring more attention to the eye. In Photoshop, I made a tighter crop that I’m not sure I like.
Data: Canon R5; 100-500mm lens @ 500mm; 1/640 sec; f/7.1; ISO 1000.
(Note that this is a replacement image since I had originally reused a previous submission by mistake.)

The B&W treatment is effective. And I also like the original image as I find the yellowish color in the pupil actually draws the attention to the eye more than the B&W.   Posted: 01/13/2025 18:19:41
When I need to think of something to improve, then I would change the cropping to reduce the area on the top left that has less wrinkles. See attached an idea of the croppping. Ignore the bw treatment, which was an online conversion. What do you think?   Posted: 01/14/2025 15:07:46
