About the Image(s)

Enthusiasts driver converted their snowmobile into sleds to be able to race on water. Watercross season is short in Canada and there are limited body of water to be used for watercross. It is a controversy sport for the potential impact to the nature environment. The sled sinks to the bottom of the lake and need to be recovered causing disruptions to the lakebed. Nevertheless, there are two or three races organized every summer for the fun of this exciting sport.

Mandy, your processing of this photograph is outstanding! I love that you decided to make the background black. The water provides sufficient context; leaving it visible would only add distractions.

I wondered if cropping a bit off the bottom would make the Watercross even more exciting. Your thoughts?

I am a Canadian and I never heard of the sport - thanks for introducing it to me. With global warming it may be the only way to be able to use snowmobiles!

The B&W treatment is right on - by darkening the background you have turned a vacation snapshot into a documentary on an esoteric action sport .   Posted: 01/13/2025 18:27:26

Mandy, brilliant shot and brilliantly converted to BW. I echo the comments re the dark bakcground and I like the composition (bike vs wave). Very nice!   Posted: 01/14/2025 15:10:55

Mandy,

Dynamic shot that pops in BW. I was not aware of this sport either so kudos to you for sharing it with our mono group.

Mandy, I really like you capture the action in this image. The conversion to black and white if very effective in that it highlights the driver, machine and the water spray. The one suggestion I would have is to extend the image to the left and get more of the water spray in the image. I think this would add to the action in the image.
