About the Image(s)
We spent spring holiday in Marbella / Spain. From the balcony of our apartment we saw to a playground with wooden poles as ceilings to provide shadow. The picture was taken with a Hasselblad X2D and a normal lens (XCD 65). I did the usual postprocessing steps in LR (highligts and blacks down, shadows and whites up, slight increase of texture, clarity and dehaze). As the crop was rather small I had to enhance it with Super Resolution in LR

Adrian,
Top marks for pulling the picture within the picture in your original via a well conceived crop.
The light foreground pulls my eye there, you see the child, move into the dark background to examine the playground objects etc.
Well done

Adrian - I am again blown away by the cropping potential of your camera. There are probably 6 more pictures that can be extracted from the original.
I was drawn by the parallel lines cast by the structure and the child's legs. To emphasize that I cropped in a bit tighter to minimize the amount of details that I had to remove by the spot removal tool. I also removed a few other small areas , including the white spot in the shadow cast by the box on the right.   Posted: 12/05/2024 00:49:47

Correction - I meant the white spot in the shadow cast by the box on the top left corner.   Posted: 12/05/2024 00:51:20

Many thanks Michael - I moved from 35 mm to 6x6cm in analogue times due to the potential to enlarge prints. I am very happy that the Hasselblad Digital Medium Format has transferred this to the current age and I therefore can well live with the downsides of the camera (slow Autofocus, heavy weight, price tag).
I like your adjustments - thanks for them   Posted: 12/06/2024 18:48:09

Adrian, your ability to find such a wonderful photograph within a MUCH larger one is impressive! I love the shadows of the boy's legs juxtaposed with the structure's shadows. Brilliant!
Like Mike, I couldn't resist playing with your image in Photoshop and Camera Raw. I decided to do a more dramatic crop to emphasize the parallel shadows further. Your thoughts?

Thanks Pete, your version is great as it gives even more focus on the main theme.   Posted: 12/11/2024 14:10:45

Adrian, everyone says it all. Finding a potential image within a big scene is very hard to do, you did it. the original image has many distractions, the lines, repetitions and structures compete with each others, difficult for viewer to find the subject. Your crop works very well, human in an image adds interest and action.

Amazing how much you can crop with that sensor and still have a really nice image. I do like the lines in this image and the reflection of the boy in the wet surface. Like Pete and Michael mentioned, I would crop out the top of the image a little more to remove the structures at the top.   Posted: 12/19/2024 12:55:39
