About the Image(s)
We Will Keep the Lights On ??“ Tom Bodett’s line. I turned day into night starting with an image from a small Missouri town called Jonesburg.
Workflow: I removed several objects using generative fill in PS, changed the sky, and then used NIK Silver Efex and the Detail Extractor. I then went to LR Classic used the radial grad and brush tools to create the light from pole lamp. It took some experimenting to get a semi-realistic rendering.
Camera: Olympus E-M1 MKII, 12-100mm f4 at 25mm, 1/1000 sec f8 0EV ISO 640

Emil, I love the feeling of this image. You did a magical job changing day into night. Really well done! (It would be delightful to know the details of your process!)
I wanted to see if I could make it an even more intimate image. So, off to Camera Raw after a few Photoshop modifications. What do you think?

Emil - that is quite a feat technically. And also artistically - your idea to add the light beam to the lamp clearly creates the impression that it is nighttime.   Posted: 11/17/2024 04:57:22

Emi, great choice for Black and White, the original image has many distraction, isolating the focus on the light and the house is very effective.

Emil, I have been watching videos on YouTube from Jamie R Mathlin who goes takes a daytime image and converts it a nighttime image. I like the image and how you took the light post to create a nighttime image. I would have created a larger circle of light at the base of the lamp post to create a cone of light. You got me interested in trying this technique. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 11/18/2024 15:03:09
