I'm curious how others will handle the cropping of this subject. I left the light area at the right edge in but maybe I should have cropped it out. What do you think?

I used the original, and tried two crops , both leaving a bit more space ahead of the Police, so that i felt they were not walking out of the street. I did lighten the girl a bit and used the second crop as in the first one with a lot more space in front of the mounted police it seemed to me to be out of balance. I did the editing in lightroom and just used the simple sepia preset which was closer to your toning than a pure greyscale image. I do think your toning works well.   Posted: 12/06/2023 15:48:45
Kathleen - Good eye!! I love her small size compared to the two mounted police officers. Your toning keeps the colors from being a distraction though you might add more contrast and darken the blacks (as it appears that Isaac did with his edit). B   Posted: 12/12/2023 19:06:11

Kathleen, I like the crop, but I tend to prefer the color version, and the light area in front of the horses is not so apparent. My guess is that the girl is trying to imitate the horses steps.   Posted: 12/12/2023 19:45:49
Hi Isaac -- Your observation that the girl is imitating the horses' gait is very perceptive. I hadn't thought of it.   Posted: 12/22/2023 11:38:25
I love this one. The little kid and the police create beautiful visual rhythm. Choice of sepia tone also adds to the mood. The space in front of the image also adds to the spatial effect. A very powerful image. Excellent work.   Posted: 12/21/2023 20:44:36
Thank you, Pinaki!   Posted: 12/22/2023 11:33:21
Kathleen, I like your images as presented including the slight sepia tone of the image. The mounted police and horses are interesting on their own but it is the little girl that provides the focus point of the story. I love that she is isolated and takes the viewer eyes around the image and then back again. The clean foreground pavement provides a resting place for the eyes against the busyness of the background. Wonderful capture!   Posted: 12/24/2023 13:29:15
