Two Brothers by Sally Erickson

September 2023 - Two Brothers

About the Image(s)

This was taken at the kite festival in New Bedford - Fort Tabor. The kites are beautiful but I think the young ones prefer the giant bubbles. They are such a joy to watch. I could have cropped in but I wanted the whole enchilada, all the kids, the parents, the ocean and flags. It’s all a part of the story

Sally, this is busy image and the time of the day makes the light very hash and creates very strong shadows obscuring most of the faces in the back ground. Of course you tried to center the attention in the two boys at the front, dressed the same way (hard to say if they are twins), and they indeed are concentrated in going after the giant bubbles in the front and you can also see the mother in an acrobatic position, also photographing them. For sure it is not an easy crop to isolate the two brothers.   Posted: 09/11/2023 12:32:19

Sally - You succeeded in creating a joyful image with the two children and the bubbles. I understand why you wanted to keep the full scene to show everything that was going on at the time. Perhaps a radial filter the keeps the boys a little brighter and slightly tones down the rest of the scene might be an interesting edit. B   Posted: 09/11/2023 13:43:39

Thank you gentlemen, I will give the radial filter a try.   Posted: 09/11/2023 20:34:23

A very nice action scene of kids enjouing them selves, including what I think is their mother taking a cell phone picture of them. I adjusting the lighting and colour somewhat in Lightroom, cropped a bit of the sides to focus more on the subjects but still leave most the environment they were in intact but blurry and with masking sharpened the boys leaving a bit of blurr to indicate motion.   Posted: 09/14/2023 08:24:14

Ed, I like this crp. Makes it more centered on the mother, the kids and the bubbles. The sharpening really distorted the kids faces.   Posted: 09/17/2023 08:32:59

Sally, this is a neat image with the two kids dressed alike and the big bubbles. I agree with Ed's crop; it really makes the story about the boys and the bubbles.   Posted: 09/18/2023 15:56:27

Sally, colorful image of the kids and adults enjoying themselves. I like the geometry of the circles (bubbles) and the verticals of the flags. I like Ed's version and crop; with the horizon on the thirds makes for better composition. Side lighting and shadows add depth to the image.   Posted: 09/21/2023 06:27:35

Nice image, true to the mood with the kid in front. I like the lady trying to take cell phone photo. I would have tried to do some post processing on the background . Try to pull the shadows maybe   Posted: 09/23/2023 09:00:51
