About the Image(s)
One of my favorite street photos from a March 2026 trip to Mexico City. I was absolutely mystified seeing this armed guard with his hand on his gun guarding a Krispy Kreme donut shop on a busy shopping street in the city center. While in my younger days I could not pass up a good donut (I am somewhat reformed) I never thought that donuts were that valuable. Go figure?
iPhone 16. Edited in LR to highlight the guard and change the photo’s perspective.

Bruce, great image indeed. The face language says it all. Obviously the "Donas" are protected as gold. Nice crop. Image is sharp.   Posted: 04/02/2026 18:55:03
Bruce,
This is a fantastic example of a 'found moment' in street photography. The juxtaposition of a high-security armed guard against the cheerful, brightly colored backdrop of a Krispy Kreme is both surreal and thought-provoking.
You've done an excellent job with the perspective and crop; the way the guard stands out as the central pillar of the frame really emphasizes his alert posture. The lighting on the donuts contrasted with his dark uniform creates a great visual balance. It's a well-captured 'slice of life' that highlights the unexpected realities of different cultures. Truly a standout image!   Posted: 04/03/2026 14:41:52

Bruce,
I'm right there with you - I love a good donut. The main subject looks like he's guarding that donut stand as if his life depends on it, which adds a fun sense of character to the shot. I noticed he even has his hand on his weapon. The image is wonderfully sharp, and I really like how you shifted the perspective to make it feel as though it was taken straight on. Clean, crisp, and now I'm hungry too.   Posted: 04/09/2026 02:07:08

Impressive! The misdirection of his attentiveness away from the "goods" evoked some wild imaginings. . . Just WHAT was he looking at? And why? Meantime- tge counter person is on the phone. Was he saying "everything is okay," or just talking to his wife? The picture is doing what it is supposed to- framework of a story to be told, but we get to fill in the blanks.
I did have a big smile come when I saw the donut growing out of his ear.

Bruce, you definitively capture the moment in this image. The truce expression of his face and hand on the gun, is worrying me that maybe he saw something? I guess donuts are not the valuable there too....I like they way you crop the image
