About the Image(s)

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to Colombia South America for one week of birding photography. Since I arrived earlier than the rest of our small group, the tour leader drove into the city of Pereira to show me around. I photographed this young guy from the car---I like how he gave me a thumbs up when he noticed the camera. It was only later that I realized he had miss-matched sneakers.

Sony A1 M2; Tamron 28-200 mm. ISO 620; 28mm; f/3.5; 1/250 sec. Edited in LR and Topaz Photo AI. Original attached.

Bruce, Colombia is a bird's photographers and birders paradise. I was in the same region last September, specially for the hummingbirds. I like the way you cropped the image isolation the main subject and pace very well. The image is sharp and nicely composed. It is a normal reaction of the subjects when they realize that are being photographed.   Posted: 03/09/2025 10:26:17

This is interesting in that the subject is the person sitting on the sidewalk. The mismatched shoes suggest that perhaps a panhandler but with your original you were not close enough to contribute. In my mind, his facial expression tells it all. I am not sure if the thumbs up has the meaning as up here. It is a good image. The original tells a somewhat different story in that it shows what looks like somewhat expensive shops and shoppers contrasted against an individual to whom that would be an alien environment, It could be somewhat cropped show the person a bit larger and then some editing to make him stand out a bit more.   Posted: 03/12/2025 08:47:19

The image is sharp and nicely composed. Sneakers are a surprise, small things that you get in street photography." thumbs up" makes the photo. It separates the viewer from the frame and makes him aware that they are looking at a picture.
Great Shot.   Posted: 03/16/2025 15:27:29

Bruce -- I think your cropping decision is excellent. The seated main figure certainly tells a story: his position says defeat; his expression says hardship; the mis-matched shoes say poverty; and yet he gives us a thumbs-up. The mysterious figure on the left suggests consumerism which is out of reach for the poor man. Excellent image -- congratulations.   Posted: 03/23/2025 16:20:34
