Unloading the Catch by Bruce Goodman

December 2024 - Unloading the Catch

About the Image(s)

On a trip to Myanmar in 2014 we spent an afternoon without guides exploring the markets in Yangon. People were always friendly and with a simple nod to the camera, most were happy to allow me to photograph them. This young man unloading the day’s catch was a standout with his dyed reddish/purple hair.

Taken in JPG (before I knew about RAW). Olympus OM1 Mii; 72mm full frame equivalent; f/7.1; 1/200 sec.

I think I will send this with permission to two of my brothers in Alberta who claim to know how to catch fish. The image is in balance and well composed. Perhaps a bit of sharpening of the workman would have a positive effect, Also the splash of white around his head has a positive effect as it makes him stand out from the collection of fish.   Posted: 12/10/2024 20:52:42

Bruce, great image. The worker indeed stands out contrasting with the fish and the ice. Interesting vantage point. I am guessing you were up on the walkway, and he down inside the guts of the boat. His arms also work as leading lines to the fish.   Posted: 12/16/2024 17:01:19

Bruce--I really like this image. The background of grey fish and ice contrasts nicely with the subtle colors of the figure. You caught just the right moment, with him looking up at the camera and the body language making an interesting narrative.   Posted: 12/19/2024 16:26:55

Excellent work. Love the image. I will still crop out the top left corner of the image as it is contributing nothing. Otherwise a great photo.   Posted: 12/20/2024 02:03:23

I agree with Pinaki as the dark upper left corner was a bit of distraction for me as well. So I opened the image, selected that corner and did a content aware fill. Otherwise great image.   Posted: 12/21/2024 18:27:44
