This image was taken near Shorey in Northern Peru as we were driving by. I happened to notice the child from a bit back and was able to get my window open and get the image as we passed her. I liked how she seemed somewhat attentive to the traffic but not really excited watching it. It was taken with a film camera and then I scanned the print and did the conversion to BW in Elements. Given that we were moving through the town quite slow the image is fairly sharp and I am please with the result. I have no information as to exposure , or focal length although I did use the zoom feature a bit. ISO was 400 on fujifilm. I have included the original direct scan of the print.

Ed, typical altiplano (or Andean Plateau) people, which lies between Bolivia, Peru and North of Chile. I like the face expression of the kid which seems to be lost in space, just wondering of what is going on around her. It is a good reproduction by scanning, and the B&W interpretation gives additional interest.   Posted: 12/04/2024 16:06:28

Ed - Really sharp for a moving image from a car. I prefer the color version as there is more contrast between the young girl and the background. In the original, her red checks and something yellow in her hands stand out but are lost in the B&W. B   Posted: 12/13/2024 14:14:42

I still prefer the color image . Maybe it needs some editing but I am very sure you can get those beautiful red cheeks, typical of those high altitude kids . Nice composition though.   Posted: 12/20/2024 02:01:14

Ed--I think the color/monochrome discussion is useful; I find both images interesting. She has so much character and looks like a portrait from ancient Andean pottery. I guess I prefer the b/w image.   Posted: 12/20/2024 17:31:23

I guess I'm #3 in line for color. Looks a bit more realistic to me that way.   Posted: 12/21/2024 18:38:21
