About the Image(s)

Pasar (market) Cideng early on a Thursday morning (continuing). Pasar Cideng is a local garment market in Central Jakarta. It is a fenced dirt and gravel enclosure used by low-cost garment makers in Java to sell their creations to retailers in Jakarta. The market opens at approximately 5 a.m. and closes at noon, vans arrive very early, and colourful garments are set up in no time. The buying and selling is like a choreographed dance, played to obtain fast results. Buyers have a group of sellers they know and trust. The question for each Thursday is how much each piece will cost and how many pieces the buyer can afford to take. No special camera settings and no flash. I removed a stool because it interfered with the image.
This setting caught my eye. The boy was assembling mannequins and adjusting dresses in a practiced and confident way. I sensed he knew I was there, but he either decided to ignore me or was too busy to care.

I love this image Cisco. I prefer the coloured version and I like the stool in the forground. So I'd leave it in the image.
The colours are muted and I like all the feet and arms.
It is tack sharp and compositionally I like the vertical lines of the dresses and diagonal line formed by the bases on which the mannequins are standing.
Yes, "Rebuilding Bodies" but you seem to have a couple of arms left over, Mate! *laughs*
Well done!

Thank you, Martin, good comment, right to the point. I tend to choose B&W over colour, my thing.
I removed the stool because it interfered with the scene and disturbed it. For me, what captured attention was the hands and arms lying around, waiting for the action to start.
Speaking of dresses and arms, I have a few extra, but I am missing a dress - someone is exposed.
Thank you again.   Posted: 07/08/2025 11:19:07

Very nice picture. I agree with B&W at this point, because Time seems to be left out. But I would prefer it vertical.   Posted: 07/09/2025 17:46:54

Thank you for commenting. I will try the image in a vertical frame, and let's see what happens.   Posted: 07/12/2025 10:46:46

I don't think is going to be nice to reframe it now. I mean for an original vertical shot. But give a try.   Posted: 07/17/2025 08:32:09

Your image is great and a good choice in mono. I agree with leaving the stool out of the image. A very powerful story telling image.   Posted: 07/13/2025 07:47:02

The monochrome shifts the focus back to the working man, rather than the dresses. Good choice - I really like this image.   Posted: 07/18/2025 14:22:30

Cisco, I don't think you could lose going color or b&w. Good choice to remove the blue stool. The arms make a good foreground focus, and there are nice tonal qualities in the b&w rendition. The dress lines and hands point down to the boy, and his arms complete the circular motion within the image. What do you think about some burning top left and bottom right?   Posted: 07/18/2025 15:58:26

Thank you, Trey. I think burning the bottom would work. Burning the left side of the image, I don't know. There is a "naked" mannequin; it is subtle, and one has to look to find it. If I were to burn the left side, I think the dynamics would change.   Posted: 07/19/2025 02:01:50
