August 2026 - Marlboro Man

Western photography speaks to my heart. I will be back on the ranch this month with 20 other photographers. This one took a lot of work to get the final image.
I ran it through Photoshop and then NIK. I wanted to deepen the shadows and the black without losing detail in the grass.
I was using my Nikon D850. The exposure was 1/2500 second with ISO of 800. My focal length was at 70MM and f2.8.
The original image included 2 other horses and rides and was a color landscape.
I look forward to seeing all your images for August and getting your feedback on mine.

This is a wonderful image of a western scenery. The shadow/silhouette of the cowboy is perfect. The circle rope is awesome. The sky tone is great--not b&w, but not color. You can see the clouds. And the dust kicking up from the earth with the dog running alongside makes it perfect. Excellent job! Posted: 08/09/2026 08:32:37
This shot was taken during the golden hour. I really love sepia tones. So instead of B&W I edited it in sepia. Posted: 08/15/2026 23:14:18
I just want to move out west to get shots like this! This is the reason we take photos and it's edited perfectly. The dust makes you feel the movement and the rope makes me think he's ready to wrangle something. Posted: 08/11/2026 23:21:40
