Old Car Terlingua by Pauline Jaffe

August 2026 - Old Car Terlingua

About the Image(s)

The subject image of an old rusted car was taken in West Texas just outside of Big Bend National Park in a town called Terlingua. I spotted the car outside of the Terlingua Ghost Town. The ghost town offers a glimpse into the town's mining past with abandoned buildings, old vehicles, and historic ruins. There were miners who died here during the 1918 influenza outbreak and are buried in the cemetery. In addition to having a ghostly appearance, Terlingua has active shops, restaurants, art galleries, etc.

Tech: I took the photo with my Nikon Z 6 ii, 24-70 lens ISO 200, f/ 5, shutter 1/2000 sec

I love this photo. The colors in the rust came out nice. I often shoot photo in old ghost towns. What fun!   Posted: 08/01/2026 19:26:57

This is the gold standard of the rusty old car department. The colors are the best I've ever seen in an old rusted car. The angle you chose was perfect. My only suggestion, and it is a very minor one, would be to eliminate the three telephone poles in the upper aspect of the image.   Posted: 08/01/2026 21:07:02

Nice car and I'm sure the ghost town yielded even more fun shots for you. Great rust and colors for the car. I wish it stood out more from the background, maybe darken the background a bit? I agree about removing the poles, though they are a minor distraction.   Posted: 08/11/2026 23:43:29
