About the Image(s)
I got to try to photograph my favorite sport - volleyball - this past year as our local college team competed in their regional tournament (and won). Indoors, bad lighting and backgrounds, not a fast lens, and trying to stay out of the action was ust part of the challenge. I found myself watching the game more often and missing "the" moment, but it was still fun. This was my favorite shot of the games I attended.

Hi Carol: This is a wonderful action shot. Your camera setting were spot on. I hope you gave this girl a copy of the photo.   Posted: 07/10/2025 19:11:37
Lori, thanks so much. I actually got to post it on the university website for the team, but never heard if they got them. It's just fun to try something new.   Posted: 07/26/2025 16:59:27
Carol,
Very nice action shot, as Lori said. And the lighting looks just fine in your shot. From what a friend of mine tells me, the way he goes about getting action shots at a game is the old "spray and pray" technique, with holding focus being a big issue, even with a camera that has tracking subject detection in it. Your focus is spot on, not only for your main subject but also for the other players and the ref. I really like the expression of #15 crouching on the other side of the net. Nice job.   Posted: 07/13/2025 02:52:46

Rick, Thanks -and I did spray and pray with all the action going on. Just hard to shoot and watch at the same time (former player, so love the game). Gyms are tough to get lighting and I don't have mirrorless or tracking, so felt really good getting the shot, though many went in the trash.   Posted: 07/26/2025 17:01:57
This is a wonderful image that captures a real sense of movement and energy. The energy is so palpable. The lighting looks good to me and the image is sharp and in focus.
I would have liked to know what your camera settings were--the technical piece since this is an action shot.
Nice job!   Posted: 07/17/2025 21:12:20

Carol, This is a gem! I like it just the way it is: full of color, action and energy. I would also like to know your settings. You hit the nail on the head with them.   Posted: 07/21/2025 19:06:42
Alec, thanks. I have to go back and check, next time I'll post them with the shot.   Posted: 07/26/2025 17:04:25
(Group 2)
Hi Carol.
I like the low angle vantage point for this shot. It is tack sharp. well done! The anticipation of the other players and referee really completes the story.
Take a look at my image over at Group 02 and let me know what you think.   Posted: 07/23/2025 21:09:54
