About the Image(s)

This was taken at 1/500 of a sec, ISO 400 & Shutter speed of f9.
This image was taken on New's Year's Day this year. I guess that I am just drawn to the lonely old abandoned buildings. I like the old oak tree next to the barn. We just had a dusting of snow here in Wisconsin. I had upped the contrast, lowered the highlights, whitened the whites and darkened the shadows and blacks to bring out the sky a bit more. I also did a de-haze to bring the sky out some more. I also cropped off some of the negative space on the left side of the image.

An interesting composition and not much I would add. I do think the negative space does add to the drama of the red barn off in the corner. I would try brightening the barn just a tad and emphasize the redness, to make it pop a little more. I added a bit more blue and contrast to the sky and more gold to the forground.   Posted: 03/11/2025 16:58:47

Linnea Really like this photo and can tell that you composed it thoughtfully. I almost think there's too much negative space on the left side.( I almost have to search for the barn and tree). But they make an interesting picture together. I liked Sandra's edit of bluer sky and golder grass and red barns are just wonderful to find.   Posted: 03/12/2025 08:32:56

This is a wonderful image and a terrific composition with the abandoned barn and tree in the right corner of the frame. It adds so much drama to the image. I, personally, don't know if changing the sky helps or not because the sky that you have now looks forboding and almost tells a story that a storm is coming,so it depends on the narrative that you are looking to say. I think you did a wonderful job finding this image and working it. Nice job.   Posted: 03/18/2025 15:58:11

This is a very good image. I really like it just the way it is: somber, lonely and somewhat haunting. I tried some more contrast and dehaze just for interest. Here's the result:   Posted: 03/20/2025 18:06:30

Linnea,
I like the image pretty much as you have it. I think you are playing with all the right variables to end up with the look/mood you are after. I can't think of any changes to suggest. Nice shot.   Posted: 03/24/2025 19:43:02

I like this image very much just as you have it. You capture the solitude of the barn and tree. Maybe you could add a little more to the sky to bring out shadows more. Overall lovely.   Posted: 03/26/2025 21:47:53
