About the Image(s)
This month I am submitting an image I had in my archives which at the time, no matter what I did to work on it, it did not work out to my satisfaction??”black and white, color, trying unsuccessfully to remove the very distracting background. I did however like the soft expression in the old man's face.
Now years later with a fresh look, I was able to remove the distracting background, and I think this image works well.
Please give me your feedback.

I like that you simplfied the picture by removing the background. Although I didn't see the original, so hard to tell if it added or took away from your final result. Such an interesting expression on his face, which you've captured nicely.   Posted: 03/11/2025 16:53:21
Attached is the original image I took in 2021 which I did edit the distracting background but I didn't completely blacken it out. I think the image looks much better completely darkened out.
I forgot to mention that this image was taken with a Canon Rebel camera at f 5.6 at 1/20 sec at ISO 400.   Posted: 03/11/2025 19:52:03

Pauline, This is very sharp with a great expression of ironic amusement. You did a spectacular job with the original to bring out all that you did. I've been using Topaz AI for face recovery. I've attached the result, but it is not as good as yours. I think that it smoothed it out too much, eliminating the subtly of the expression.   Posted: 03/20/2025 18:58:10

This is a really good street portrait. I love the expression! I do like the edits. It inspires me to look at some of my previous images to see if my current editing skills can help them.   Posted: 03/21/2025 23:43:18
Pauline,
Very nice portrait. Looking at the original version you attached in your comment to Sandra, I think you did a great job getting rid of the background...no masking artifacts or the like around the image of the guy...so well done. I was interested to look at the edit Alec did, and I agree with him that his edit is not as good as your original. For one thing, the skin tone on his edit tends toward blue/gray, which you could warm up with white balance, but I really don't see there is any facial detail in your image that needs to be recovered...very sharp ad nice detail.   Posted: 03/24/2025 20:26:19

I like his face even though he is a Yankee fan. You did a great job editing out everyone else.   Posted: 03/26/2025 21:55:43
Pauline, I think the edit to the background is terrific. It really shows off his expressive face and takes away all distractions. I like the red glasses too, so glad you kept the image in color. His eyes draw the viewer in and even have a catch light in them. I like that the shadow of his hat isn't too dark so you can see the wrinkles in his face.   Posted: 04/01/2025 00:05:53
