We just returned from Maui and this is a shot from our final sunset as seen from our hotel in Wailea.
I took this using my Nikon D850 and Tamron 24-70 lens. My ISO was set at 500, with f/14, and exposure at 1/640 sec.
Unfortunately, I forget to pack my travel tripod in my suitcase so most night photography will completely out of the question.
I was trying to set up the sunset behind the lava rock that looked like a mitt while still seeing the sunset reflection on the ocean.

Very nice sunset! The colors are awesome. I happen to like lens flare. I think if the f-stop was closer to f/22 you would have gotten it and the image would be an eye catcher. I am not sure from the description if you intended the silhoutte of the rocks. In my opinion, I would like to see a bit of detail in the foreground. Not a lot, just a bit. Just a little lightening of the shadows. But take that part of my comments with a grain of salt. I am not really great at post processing and am still working on my lightroom/photoshop skills. Thank you Linnea for taking the time to review my iamge for this month. I was so afraid of lightening the foreground and possible changing the object intent I was looking for. Mostly when I'm on vacation I get comments from my family to take their photo. However, they complain too much...sunset do not. Have a bless Christmas. Posted: 12/16/2024 22:35:30

Lori, Lovely sunset and it will bring back great memories each time you look at it. It isn't easy to get everything that you want, so you choose - and I like your choices. Silhouette is nice with the deep blue water and oranges, plus the flare of the sunset. Your choice to show just part of the sun works well. Posted: 12/18/2024 20:55:36
