About the Image(s)

Hi everybody! Thank you very much for having me in the group! - I took long exposure shots of my granddaughter dancing in a dark museum cellar, trying to capture just blurred trails of the movement against the warmly lit ruins. In some frames she stood almost still, and her expression and posture reminded me of the cover image of "The Little Prince" on his asteroid. I wanted to see if I could make it a story in those lines. The face of the background girl was so distorted by the motion blur that I tried to change it for a better one that had a suitable expression. The planet is an old globe in a museum vitrine, and the stars in the outer space come from a scratches filter in Topaz studio. All of it is quite clumsily put together, and I know that the lighting is all wrong but could not fix it.
I am so looking forward to learning from you all! I work with Capture One 22 and Affinity Photo but I think that IŽll be able to translate Lightroom/Photoshop adjustments to their languages.

Welcome to the group, Kirsti!
Your granddaughter is lovely. The whole image is quite charming. I really like the colors, with your granddaughter's dress a very nice complement to the golden hues. I think the globe balances very nicely with the foreground girl. The stars look great.
I really like how similar the girls look but also somewhat different. It makes me wonder if it's the same girl from a different universe or time? Or is it her sister? Using your granddaughter in the picture twice gives it a sense of mystery.
Personally, I think the lighting works well. It gives me a real sense of foreground, mid-ground, and background. I believe you could decrease the brightness on the wall a bit using the brightness slider in the exposure tool.
I might consider moving the girl by the wall a little bit to the left, to create more of a triangle in the composition.
Your image is very well done. I'm so glad you joined our group!

Maybe something like this is what I was suggesting.   Posted: 06/12/2022 13:23:38

Welcome to the group Kirsti!
I really like the image that you have created with your beautiful granddaughter, in my opinion you have managed it very well.
If I can suggest anything about the light,It is that I would brush a small amount of light on the floor to suggest the direction of the light source and I would decrease a bit on the wall behind the small girl.
Otherwise I find that the image works very well.

Thanks, Maria - that sounds very good! I guess that the direction of the light is what has kept bothering me - it is different between the originals.   Posted: 06/13/2022 05:59:43

Kiresti, Glad to have you join the fun. I very much like your image. Your granddaughter is a natural in this role. My only suggestion would be to consider applying some treatment to the ground to eliminate the familiar stone pattern so as to sell this as otherworldly.   Posted: 06/14/2022 17:22:15

Welcome to Group 54, Kirsti. I agree with a lot that has been said, including that this is an impressive image (and that your granddaughter is beautiful). I agree with Brad that the familiar stones are a distraction. I also feel the lighting is a bit harsh, but in spite of those correctable suggestions, I see this as an enjoyable science fiction depiction.   Posted: 06/28/2022 13:14:25

Thank you, Brad! I have already made some new versions and will keep working on it. I am so glad that you think it carries the idea!   Posted: 06/28/2022 23:37:15
