I'm sure the birds appreciate it, as these two clearly are. The first impression I had from the image was that it had a green color cast. Just removing that in post made a big improvement to my taste. I also removed a few distractions on the lower right, lower left ad a few of the drops that seemed to be attracting too much of my attention. Judith, I love splash. The birds are so much fun to watch taking a bath. When the color seems to not be working for me, I try to remember to give black and white consideration. I don't often remember, but I did in this case. See what you think. The birds become almost sculptural in black and white. A different look, for sure. My eye first goes to the bird on the right. That yellow beak draws me right to that shiny eye. You could consider selecting the birds and experiment with increasing contrast or the black in the feathers. Or you could warm up the bird's color as Mike suggested. The first thing I noticed was the green cast this image has. That should be easily corrected by moving the WB slider to the right. If you have DXO Color Efex there is a filter there calld Remove Color Cast. Just choose that and scroll down to green. You did a good job, in my opinon of getting the eyes of both birds sharp - no easy trick! Compositonally, I think the image would be stronger if the birds were facing each other. But they don't always pose the way we would prefer. As it is you might think about doing a non-traditonal aspect ratio - more panoramic - and allowing a little more space in front of the bird on the right. A song comes to my mind when I look at this picture. You caught a fun moment with the bird splashing in the water. I too saw the green cast right away. Others have made suggestions for correction. I think you did a great job in cropping to isolate the birds from the busy background and what could not be cropped out you blurred/darkened nicely. I think the b/w version works well and if you want the yellow beak you could always paint it back in. As always a nice and unusual image. I am surprised you captured the splashing bird and the water drops so well at 1/320 sec. I did notice the green cast as well feeling that the green color of the bird bath would help to contribute to the casting color. In your presented version there is a distracting leaf or something in the lower left that I would also remove or make less obvious and distracting. I feel that Sharon has a valid point in creating more room for the bird on the right so it looks like it is looking out of the frame.   Posted: 08/21/2026 17:22:36
