About the Image(s)
In honor of spring, here is a baby cottontail just starting to explore his bushland habitat. This photo was taken with a handheld Canon R5 and a 100-500 lens at 280 mm. The settings were 1/1600 sec, f5.6, ISO 3200.
I cropped the other cottontails out and masked the overly bright background and decreased the exposure. I added some contrast to the bunny.

Peter Cottontail! Wonderful detail in the bunny's fur and whiskers, and great catchlight in his wondering eye. His expression suggests innocence and curiosity. I also like the original image; it shows daylight and tender green vegetation, and has a feeling of Spring. The darker edited version is more mysterious. Both versions have stories.   Posted: 04/04/2026 17:35:58
A perfect Easter image. Very cute little rabbit and I like the angle which favors its face and ears. I like how you separated the subject by darkening the background and the crop works for me. I don't have any suggestions. Nice job.   Posted: 04/07/2026 14:33:24
Polly, I like your cropped and edited version presented. The bunny's face, eyes and fur really stand out enhancing the image. I am wondering if the sticks in the background could be just a little darker helping the bunny have a little more pop. Nice capture.   Posted: 04/10/2026 20:55:22
For me this is a fun image. I think you did a good job of getting the eye in focus and plenty of detail on the fur. Your crop eliminates most of the distracting background and darkening it makes the subject stand out. In my opinion shooting from above is not the most effective compositonal choice for the subject. I wonder if you could have gotten into a lower position and waited if he might have hung around and given you another opportunity.   Posted: 04/12/2026 13:41:21
A sure sign of spring when the new bunnies of the year are out exploring. Working with wildlife can be challenging. Wouldn't it have been nice if all three were close together and smiling for you. I think the one you chose to present was the best of the three. He/she seems to be sniffing out the environment. Nice catch light in the eye and the bunny has detail and is sharp. Dealing with woodland backgrounds can be difficult but I think you did a good job with the crop and darkening the background so the lighter bunny stands out.   Posted: 04/14/2026 18:24:05
A cute image and perfect for spring! Love the detail in the bunny and the inquisitive look on its face with great catchlight in the eye. Sharon has a good point on seeing if a lower position was possible but no that you have to work with what you have. Might have toned down the brightness abit behind the neck otherwise great capture.   Posted: 04/17/2026 16:28:35
